CLASS INFO
Our club offers instructional classes each year which are usually decided at our January business meeting. The Vice President of the club is normally designated to oversee determining four or five carving projects to undertake that calendar year . Ideas for carving projects are solicited from our members as to their carving interests and range of skill sets. Classes are generally based on beginners to intermediate skill levels. Carvers bring their tools and the instructor supplies the wood with the class members reimbursing the instructor. It’s a fun time learning new carving techniques and ending up with a new work of art!
The club also reaches out to other carving instructors from the surrounding carving communities. Last year, Keith Rumohr from the Woodcarvers of NW Arkansas Club in Rogers, came to our club and gave a carving class on Chip Carving. In addition, members also take advantage of seminars offered through other carving clubs and institutions within our region.
This year our first carving project was to create a sign which featured lettering techniques. Members enjoyed using their design creativity to come up with their own lettered phrases.
A second project involved learning different types of relief carving techniques. This was a much more challenging project and included four different images in different quadrants of the carving. See the photos of the class.
